With every year comes an opportunity to hit the RESET button.

To help grow your business this new year, try a few of these suggestions to get you refocused, recharged and ready for what lies ahead.

Here’s some simple ways to make the most of the new year.

The only rule is to take action.

At the end of every week, plan the next week. At the beginning of the current month, plan out the current and next month. Look ahead often. This includes annual planning. If you need to get away, then retreat and spend time laying out the plans for success.

This can take on many meanings. Promoting is a positive force. Get behind your business with more promotion. Also your key people – read them for doing a great job.

It’s easy to carry the complete workload. Try to delegate more this year. Look to maintain a better work-life ratio that’s healthy. Let’s face it – if you drive yourself into the ground, who will continue to manage and grow your business if you’re down and out for the count?

Try something new. Continue learning. Continue innovating as long as it doesn’t hard your base business. Take classes or attend conferences. Do something new.

Attend local business events. Also look for ways to help others and in turn, ask for their help. Talk to other businesses like yours in other markets and keep plugged in.

Again, if you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time. What are your goals. Are they actionable and attainable? How are you working on them each and every day? Dreams can’t be unrealistic and requires focus and attention.

It’s time to give back. Look for ways to give back to your community. Thank people with gifts, acknowledgement and even a “thank you” card. A simple thank you goes a long way.

Don’t forget to rest. The Bible tells us God created the heavens, earth and human kind – in six days and rested on the seventh day. Are you resting? Are you retreating and getting away? Schedule ME TIME on your calendar and protect it.

When it’s not working, it’s not working. Stop, drop and roll. Put out the fire. Cut those things that are weighing you or your business down. Move on.

Some days people get tired of monotony. If you have a small staff, they may be doing tasks out of their comfort zone. Pay attention to them. Reward them. Sometimes a simple reward for self is important too. Give yourself a new tool for work. Stop and get a special hand-crafted beverage. Don’t forget that coffee is for closers!

You CAN make a difference this new year with your business and yourself. Take on a few of these and keep referencing them over the next few months. It doesn’t require January 1 to arrive before attacking the list. A fresh start begins NOW. Work on your work-life balance. And don’t get upset if these resolutions need to be reset. Today is the day winners take action.
