What is a Thought Leader?

A Thought Leader

Thought-LeadersWe throw terms around everyday. Many times, we have no idea what we mean, even if they have a nice ring to them. One of those is a “thought leader.”

A thought leader is an individual or firm that is recognized as an authority in a specialized field and whose expertise is sought and often rewarded. It was first coined in 1994 by Joel Kurtzman, editor-in-chief of the Booz & Co magazine Strategy & Business, and used to designate interview subjects for that magazine who had business ideas which merited attention.

Thought leaders are the informed opinion leaders and the go-to people in their field of expertise. They are trusted sources who move and inspire people with innovative ideas; turn ideas into reality, and know and show how to replicate their success.

Just like a great idea, thought leaders are not just filled with ideas. They take the ideas and make sure they become a reality – somewhere, somehow.
